Page Maps- September Sketch

We partnered with Becky Fleck of Page Maps this month at Paper Issues

 and here's my take on the sketch!

You can see I mixed up the sketch and used stars in place of the hearts. 

 It was so much fun to stitch on a layout using lots of colors to coordinate.

The Simple Stories Lil Dude collection was fun to use

 and it paired so well with Ryan's photos from Hawaii.

Free File Friday: Stars

July is here and it is all about the stars for Paper Issues Free File Friday.  It's fun to see how many different cut files are offered in the store that incorporate stars.  Check out the PI blog for more inspiration from the design team!

I used Pink Paislee Sweet Freedom for my son's football LO.  I love how the blue ombre paper looks behind the cut file. I layered the star stitching background and used the starring you cut file over Evan's photo.

Mix It Up Monday

It's Mix it Up Monday on the Paper Issues blog.  Orange always has a great idea to spark the mixed media challenge.  This month it's all about using scraps or creating mixed media and then punching shapes or borders out from it to add texture and depth to your pages or background!  

Here's the process I used for this project.  I started with two 12x12 white cardstock papers.  I added gesso all over one and on the second one, I just added gesso to the middle of the page.

  I used the packaging technique to layer the watercolors and added splats.  Next, I started the background page.  I did the straw blowing on opposite sides of the paper to ensure that most was dry before adding more watercolors nearby. That keeps it from getting muddy looking with too many colors blending.  I kept working inward to the yellow and green.  As it dried, I layered more paint and used the straw to add more lines of paint in both directions.

My preschooler loves dressing up or being silly. He modeled these star glasses this summer.  He definitely knows how to make me smile!  Who says Crate Paper's Cute Girl has to be just for girls??  I had fun making it work for a boy page! The last step was punching out all of the stars grouping them by color, and sewing them down!

I Hope You Dance

For a challenge to incorporate several bits of gold into a project during a Paper Issues crop, I picked this sparkly photo of Brooklyn.

Using a Heidi Swapp pocket page transparency and Studio Calico letters, I created a multi-sectioned title with various fonts on the diagonal.

The gold mist and stars added to the diagonal flow in forms of gold rub ons and wood veneer. That wraps up all that glitters...belongs on a page!
