To the Moon and Back: Ad-spiration Challenge

I am up on the Paper Issues blog today to show you how this Ad-spiration challenge came together!
The dark background was a fun depature into space and away from the normal light or white cardstock base!

Here's the stunning ad for the October challenge:
I love that you could also be inspired by the books,
stars, reading quote, night sky, latern light,  and colors!
No photo description available.

I took in the night sky vibe and went with it!
I layered mix media swirls on the background, splattered paints, and then topped it off with gold thread machine stitching!

So many swirls of stitching!
My machine did not like the tacky surface of the paint and
I ended up re-threading the machine so many times!
But, in the end, I think the effect of golden circles was worth the extra effort!
If you haven't tried using a dark background recently,
I challenge you to try this out-of-this-world background with an outer space vibe!

Thank you for stopping by the PI blog and playing along in the Facebook group with this month's challenges.  The Monster Bash Fall Crop is this week-- are you joining in on the fun?

Week 39: 52 Friday Favorites

Happy Friday! It's week 39 with our series 52 Friday Favorites
I am up on the Paper Issues blog today sharing my week in review!
This week I documented how proud I am of Brooklyn as a 7th grader
playing up in high school tennis. I think she is so brave and has rose to the challenge.
I think it definitely worthy of a shout out in my family's notable 52 weeks of highlights!

I stashbusted some of the Pebbles Girl Squad stripe paper, Wild Child by Pink Paislee embellishments, and Thickers by Vicki Boutin for AC from the Paper Issues August kit Blue Ain't Your Color! The Pinkfresh enamel hearts added the perfect amount of color and shine, too! I adore the Crate Paper Rose two-tone alpha Thickers that you can still grab from the store!

I love this format to use small photos that I've printed and it's a great way to use up favorite scraps of paper and embellishments on a smaller scale. Some weeks I document on a single page and other week's like this one I wanted a larger title to create a double-pager entry.
I love these stripes and how they make all of the green in the tennis pictures pop! It was fun to get them to meet up in the middle at opposite angles in a V-design.

Sometimes my journaling is anything but straight when I am done.
I think it looks pretty intentional when you add messy/wonky lines to your writing!

Let's see what is your favorite memory of the week!
Please post your entries in the Paper Issues

Sweet Moment

I am playing along with the new Paper Issues Challenge called PI Partners Up.  This month we are partnered with the CSI Scrapbook blog site.  They have fun "cases" each month to solve by creating something from the case file that inspires you.  The Hawaiian case photo or tropical beach image had me all inspired to pull out our Hawaii vacay pics!

The CSI Case #247 was a tropical scene and that screamed Hawaii to me!

I used lots of Amy Tangerine Hustle &Heart for this tropical scene.  How perfect is the Sweet Sensation pineapple paper for the border?! It fit the colors in the CSI scene.  The tropical pink flowers were a must to scatter throughout my design and pick up the photo included in the CSI case for February.
I used a PI free cut file for the pineapple and backed it with more AT Hustle & Heart papers.

I added acrylic paint splatters to tie in the white Thickers and cut file outline.

Your Smile is Magic

Happy Tuesday!  I hope you are having a fabulous week and are ready to Try It Tuesday with all of us at Paper Issues.  Amanda Jayne has a fun challenge this month to try out making your own embellishments.
This was easy to play along with as there are always ways to DIY and create fun embellishments for your projects.  Think: tags, rosettes, flowers, layering cut files, etc...

I am using Shimelle Glitter Girl for my design.  I love the pinks and teal for this fun beach photo from West Palm Beach last March.
Image may contain: 1 person, smiling, text

I used the Tropic Like It's Hot palm leaves cut file from Paper Issues for the base of my DIY embellies. I layered the ribbon flowers (loops of ribbon stapled in layers with my Tim Holtz tiny attacher) More cut file leaves from the Tropical Palms cut file.  Shimelle wood buttons and enamel dots for the finishing touches. I got the Shimelle mixed embellishment pack in my October PI swag bag!

Thickers with wood grain and glitter?! Yes, please! I love this set paired with the teal foam glitter words!

Machine stitching on the borders of the patterned papers for a finished look.  Love the Shimelle patterned papers: especially the wood grain stripes and the pink text word paper.  The sparkly stars paper is oh, so magical, too.

Play along with the fun at Paper Issues now through December 3rd! Save 20% on all of the Shimelle products I used as well as all of the rest of the items in stock at Paper Issues.

Scraplift Sunday: Together Quote

Today it's Scraplift Sunday on the Paper Issues blog and we are lifting a layout done by me for Take 5 Tuesday this past week.

I was inspired to use a striped paper as the base to layer and create mixed media effects. Amy Tangerine Hustle & Heart worked perfectly with this design.

I started with the watercolors and worked on opposite sides of the paper so colors wouldn't blend together while it was wet. A straw from the Paper Issues Swag Bag kit was perfect for blowing the watercolors to create the long splatters.

I started layering ephemera, layered stickers, puffy hearts, mini bows, sticker book stickers, etc... from the Amy Tangerine Hustle and Heart collection.

This was such an easy way to use up some Thicker words from my stash! Most are from Amy Tangerine collections and just two were from Dear Lizzy.  Don't forget to cut things apart to form words you need!  I did this trick for the word "place." The layered globe sticker is absolutely the cutest.

By starting with the Bright Side paper as the base to match watercolors and ephemera, it becomes an easy process to match things up by stripe color. By grouping things tone on tone, it looks less crazy busy, and more layered and colorful. The eye can clearly scan the page and focus back on the small b & w photos. I especially love the clear heart stickers in all the colors found in the sticker book.  You get a whole page of the mini wonky hearts!

Have a wonderful week ahead!
We hope you are inspired to play along with this week's scraplift or any of the new November challenges.  Please tag us on social media so we can be inspired by your creating and leave you some love!

Which Kraft? Beautifall Moments

Today it's all about a new issue at Paper Issues.  The new theme to play along with: Which Kraft?
Go check out the Paper Issues blog for all of the details in what this issue is all about!
I was inspired to use the cork Thickers and a woodgrain cut file (as close to kraft paper as I got!). This photo of my crew is all about life in October.
Falling leaves and sunny skies are our favorites in fall!
Here's my take using new Carta Bella Hello Fall and a PI cut file.

Carta Bella Hello Fall paper and woodgrain paper to use for PI cut file were the base to build this fall design. Lots of foam adhesive to pop up the cut file against the Shimmerz mixed media splatters. The wooden leaves were included in a PI swag bag kit from last fall. I was hoarding them for the perfect project. This sure worked!

The cork-look Thickers worked for the new issue prompts to use cork, kraft, or other natural products. The Hello Fall papers were the perfect mix of patterns for backing the flower cut file.

I hope your October is full of festive photos and moments that capture this beautiful season of changes!

Hello Super Hero Friends!

Today it's all about the glitter and rainbows on the Paper Issues blog.  We are showcasing new products that just bring the wow factor!  I focused on Shimelle's newest collection, Glitter Girl and using a PI cut file for the base of my layout.

The puffy glitter shaker stickers are a must! Look how it fits almost perfectly in the cut file opening! These shaker stickers are so cute and add so much fun and playfulness to a layout design. The wonky paper polka dots"Get Messy" make this background so much fun. I love the clean white paper as a base for the colorful dots and prints.

Glitter foam Thickers in teal!! Yes, please! Love the fonts and the mix of block print and cursive.

The rainbow ombre style polka dot paper is so pretty as a raised layer off of the mixed media background.

Ok, just one more close up! I love these fun colors and the variety of prints in the new Shimelle collection. The Pink Paislee Girl Squad thickers were a favorite and it's perfect down below the main title.
Have a gorgeous day! Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek!

Don't Grow Up Today

Check out the rainbows that are showing up in the Working Title with Amanda today on the Paper Issues blog.

She is in middle school, but yet it makes my heart so happy when she wants to do things like make a stuffed animal with her younger brother! It's ok with me if they pause before growing up!!
I started with the mixed media background of pink watercolors with salt and acrylic splatters of white.  Doodlebug Fairy Tale stickers and enamel hearts to add more rainbow embellies.

Dear Lizzy phrase Thickers to add some multi-colored title pop to the photo!

A bit of wonky stitching on the edge and the Lawn Fawn rainbow plaids scream happiness!

Hope you have time to add a kick of rainbow in your title this month!

We can't wait to see your creative take!

Together

There's a new issue at Paper Issues and it's called.... "Let's Give Them Pumpkin to Talk About" and that was a go sign to me to bust out the autumn collections for my project. I love this sweet family photo and it was the perfect reason to use the PI Rings of Life cut file.

I stuck with lots of Carta Bella's Hello Fall and grabbed the script gold foil foam Thickers from one canoe two and small gold Thickers from Maggie Holmes Carousel collection.

The Paper Issues free file wood slice cut file background made a great base to layer the photo and title. This photo was each family member's hand and a leaf we had picked-it is truly a family tree!

The small lowercase foam Thickers from Maggie Holmes Carousel collection have a soft green foam layer which picks up the green in the photo background. You can see how some of the tree rings I chose to leave unglued to provide more dimension and shadows. The Carta Bella cardstock stickers and Fall Forest tree paper made this design come together.

I love using the natural outline of the shape to place my longer title. I love using two fonts of Thickers alpha to accentuate certain words in a longer phrase. This soft patterned background paper is the perfect way to look at a background as your light neutral to build layers on!

I hope you'll get in the Fall spirit and join us at Paper Issues for this newest issue.
