Roll the Dice February: State Fair Time

Happy Valentine's Day!  I hope you are off to a sweet start on your day!  We are Rolling the Dice at Paper Issues today and Rachel rolled 5 photos and 3 circles.

I went with Sweet Nothings by Fancy Pants Designs to celebrate this day of LOVE!  This page documents a trip to the MN State Fair.  We love the fair food and the Super Slide!

I went with a banner style layout design to incorporate 5 little pictures in a way different than I normally do--use a photo collage print!  The scraps and strips of Fancy Pants Sweet Nothings paper came in handy to cut at a diagonal and layer!  I added pop dots under them to add dimension above the bold stripe FP paper!

I played by the original roll and only used three circles!  The rest were the awesome puffy sticker hearts that I absolutely love!  They are so much fun to sprinkle all over!  The black puffy alpha stickers are a classic font that is so pretty!

I added a few bits of ephemera and sprinkled India ink all around the background.  It's the fair--it better have  a fun vibe to it!

We are looking forward to your creative ways to sneak in 5 photos and 3 or more circles.  I hope you play along with Rachel and Roll the Dice!  Post your new projects between now and March 5th to have an entry at the PI gift cards.
Don't forget Friday, Feb 17th is another edition of Scrap n Chat on Facebook!  We are excited to see you online!  Make plans to chat it up, play the game and complete the challenge!

Have you checked out all of the new bliss in the PI store?  I am loving all of the new things that Cassie has in stock!

#allthethings

A grid design is a great way to showcase several pictures without overwhelming the page. I created this LO back in March for PI's online Scrap event and realized I never blogged it. Our family adores our time at Disney parks so this is a snapshot of a day at Disney World in March doing #allthethings !
I wanted to use wood veneer numbers to correspond to the vellum journaling at the  bottom of the page.
The fun #allthethings cut files are from The Cut Shoppe. I watercolored it to coordinate with the Amy Tangerine papers. The grid of circles can be found on Kim Watson's blog. Here's to hoping all the things are magical in your world today!

Ryan: Golden Birthday

Paper Issues has a Sketchy Saturday link up and this was based on an October Afternoon LO by Sasha Farina.
I loved how she spelled out a word in descending boxes so this cut file by 17 Turtles worked perfectly.
These were all photos from Ryan's golden birthday. It was pirate themed, so OA's Treasure Map was perfect to use again.  Also, I love any reason to have circle photos, too!
I loved Sasha's double frame of stitching, so I did that here.
I enjoyed the nudge to use mist, sequins, and stars!  I'm linking up to Paper Issues Seas the Day new issue! Yay for pirate themed parties! Thanks for looking!

Tropical Smoothie Love

Each vacation we take to warm locations, the kids can't wait to order special fruit smoothies. The pineapple stamp from the Studio Calico Far Far Away Card Kit was begging to become patterned paper!
First I stamped and used embossing powder in pastel yellow to help keep the watercolors in check and minimize paper warping.
Next, I watercolored the yellow, added the gold, and used two greens for depth.
I added the mega title and SC cut file love. I am definitely seeing more pineapple projects in my future!

Love: Merry & Bright

Elle's Studio holiday collection Good Cheer has great papers for Christmas photos like I used the red script patterned paper, but also fun colors like pink, teal, woodgrain, and gray for other projects. I also used a stamp from this collection, along with little die cut bits and  paper tear strips for the top band.
The love script cut file is by Lisa Dickinson for Basic Grey and can be found for free here:Love  I used the negative space to back it with the Elle's Studio paper.
I stitched around the circles with red, white, and black thread to tie in the colors. Thanks for looking!

Two

A grid page to tackle several Instagram square photos. I used a mini roller stamp from Glitz Design to add movement to the center of the page.
Lots of numbers are always a good idea for a birthday page! This goes perfect with Paper Issues current link party.

Time Well Spent

Loved this cut file from my favorite Etsy shop, The Cut Shoppe: Squared Away cut file
See The Cut Shoppe blog post here
I took Shimelle's online class, Inspired By, and the title piece was included in the class downloads from script expert Jen Kinkade. Check out the Shimelle Inspired By Workshop here: Inspired By
I used the patterned paper from a Studio Calico Kit: Far Far Away and the little bits are from Heidi Swapp September Skies.

Magical Memories

Paper Issues offers free cut files in their online shop and this one is their circles and stars file.  The sparkly sequin paper is from Carta Bella.  To make the background varied, I layered various circles cut from Studio Calico kit papers.  The Crate Paper Maggie Holmes Open Book Collection Gold glitter Thickers were used in the title for "Memories" and the hearts to connect the three photos.  Enamel dots and sequins were used to create clusters at different places in the LO.  Journaling fit right along the diecut border.  Sewing around some of the circles on the background die cut added texture and interest to the stars.  Chip and Dale coordinate perfectly with this star-studded LO for our Hollywood Studios trip.

Hello Adventure

To add to the movement on this page, I layered the photos with Glitz Design 6 x 6 papers, overlapped the photos at an angle, and used labels to journal.  The stitching templates were from Bazzill  Basics.  The pink floss was from an Amy Tangerine stitching kit.  The background paper was from Amy Tangerine's Plus One collection and was the fun bold print that reminded me of a beach towel to go along with the pool bliss on the page.

Never Stop Loving Learning

It is great to use the negative space that remains on the cardstock after using a diecut machine.  In this case, I had cut out speech bubbles and thought it would be a perfect way to document the first day of school.  The speech bubbles created a perfect grid format for this layout.  A 6 x 6 paper pad is a great way to group elements similar to what I did on this page.  This LO was all from Amy Tangerine's Stitched Collection from American Crafts.  The small paper pieces were easy to stack and stitch together and provide bits of advice for my three students!  Having the three children's photos from the first day created a strong visual triangle.  I also added to the triangle by using Amy Tangerine Thicker numbers for their new grade level and bursts of mist near their photo.  The mini alphabet stickers are my favorite Kelly Purkey stickers from Simon Says Stamp.  The date stamp I have been using in many layouts is the Heidi Swapp stamp from Michael's.

5 Faves: Enjoy Getaways

I used various papers in my stash to sew strips to create a border at the top and the bottom to add interest to the text background paper.  I sewed down the center of the strips and lifted them at the top and bottom for added texture and shadows for depth.  The photos were grouped based on a weekend getaway we took this past September.  The "enjoy" is a cut file found on Kerri Bradford Design's website/blog.  To make it stand out, I watercolored the area behind it for added visual interest.  I used an enamel dot for the j.  The little bits on the page are from October Afternoon and Studio Calico.  The wood veneer and doily were from a Studio Calico kit.
Photo tips to try on your next adventure:  Take photos of the various textures on the ground, capture your feet or shoes in action, and find a reflection as I did in the rearview mirror or in something else!

Paper Issues

grab our badge

Found on Paper Issues blog November 15, 2014 for the Sketch #2 Project Round Up

Stacie linked up this fun layout via Instagram. She used It Factor by WeRMemory Keepers. Love it!

I enjoy Paper Issues http://www.paperissues.blogspot.com challenges and sketches.  The Oktoberfest layout I was featured on their blog was for their Saturday Sketch #2 in November.

.This page was completed for Paper Issues Birds of A Feather Issue.  The peacock pictures from the apple orchard this past fall made this page come together quickly.  It was the perfect reason to open the Studio Calico wood veneer birds, as well.  The leaf/feather cut files are found in Paper Issues shop.  I watercolored Brooklyn to add some script in addition to the Amy Tangerine letters from two of her collections.  The Amy Tangerine Stitched paper in gray with the feathers was meant for a page like this and I paired it with aBella Blvd wood grain paper,  I sewed both papers together added the doily and done.

This can be found on Paper Issues Blog Fan Feature #2 on December 5th, 2014.

9. Stacie shared this wonderful page about peacocks. The color combo is perfect with these photos and how cute are the wood veneer birds? I also spy leaves from our Grateful Leaves November Free Cut File on this beautiful page.
